Analogue VCR Recording

Until recently there was no realistic option other than to record and display CCTV images on a conventional 24 hour time lapse analogue VCR, a monitor, a switcher or multiplexer, and use several VCR tapes per year. In addition to that a secure tape and VCR cabinet, and also a tape eraser is required under the Data Protection Act.

VCR recording works well so long as the operator remembers to, Change the tape at the right time, Insert the correct tape, Press the record button, Complete the recording log, Review the tapes regularly, Service the VCR regularly, and Replace the tape after 15 uses.

Digital Video Recording (DVR)

Before DVR could make inroads into the CCTV market all of the issues above had to be addressed, in particular it was necessary to remove the need for operator intervention and tape usage.

DVR has now come of age because it has addressed these points and function in an automated fashion, but most importantly the comparison in cost between the analogue VCR system and the DVR system is now minimal, in fact it is often cheaper.

Lee Security is now delighted to offer a number of DVR options  from as little as £1499, with reliability and functionality way in excess of a conventional CCTV recording system.

Companies often find out the importance of the points made above following an incident that takes place in front of a CCTV camera, only to find that the tape has no useable evidence.

It should be noted that the DVR that can have both colour and monochrome cameras connected to it, replaces all of the following parts on a conventional analogue CCTV system:- monitor, 24 hour time lapse VCR, 31video tapes per year, switcher or multiplexer, secure tape and VCR housing, and tape eraser.
